Went on an excursion with kingfox around the magical no-man's land between NJ and NY; the outskirts of Newark and Elizabeth.

i heard that the FAA capped the (incoming?) number of flights to 84 per hour during the holiday season.

under the Pulaski

we went down strange (sometimes restricted) roadways and cul-de-sacs

an abandoned diner near the Port

there seems to be a bit of a flooding problem in this area, no surprise...

dudes washing a truck

under all the urban byways is the Essex Penetentiary. (would you want a window in your cell or not?)

this ad campaign is everywhere. it's getting surreal.

dunno what this is, what it's for. venting? storing? filtering? idk.

i never get a good shot of Anheiser-Busch...it always looks like this when I'm driving by, making me think that Burton has it right with his depictions of Gotham: smoke and steam everywhere.

shipping lines

rather a restricted area...we only got stopped by the PA once though.

pulled over to take some shots of an abandoned AM station, WMCA.

I think it's a hopper (the questioned photo 3 before Anheiser photo), for loading? You find any recent shallow graves while down there? All that used to be inhabited (400+ years ago) le sigh

No, this is a Hopper...

and so is this:

Urban Realism, baby!

(but yeah, good call on the Hopper.)
No visible graves, and as for habitation, the flooding and the pollution probably guarantee that it will remain uninhabited for the *next* 400 years...

Actually, I seem to recall my brainiac ecologist sister (and if you ever tell her I called her that, I will both deny it and sign you up for an SI swimsuit photo shoot) seemed to suggest that there is an interesting variety of wildlife that continues to eek out an living in those marshes. And by "interesting", I of course mean something akin to the upcoming film "Cloverfield".

and somewhere...

is the Ark of the Covenant. Where else would you hide it? I some remote ancient temple high in the mountains behind a series of traps and puzzels each more fiendish and deadly than the one before it? Secure for all time until Eddie Murphy or Harrison Ford come get it? Feh! and FEH! again. In there everyone knows what you have is special and evil knows to look there. Where you were no one would know what it is if they tripped over it, and evil is already surrounding it.
Of course..that was until a haplsss couple stumbled upon it at the turn of the year while trecking on a whim, setting of a terrifying course of events!
