Spring Flowers

St Patrick's Day

In like a lion...March had more snowy days than just about all of our winter this year (warmest on record, ever); it still wasn't much snow! I took the kids spring skiing two more days, bringing our total of ski days to three. They did such a great job.

They had fun at Mountain Creek and learned a lot in those three days, but by the last one, it was *very* slushy (even with snow the night before). Here's me, photographing the empty parking lot

Field Trip to Ellis Island. Did a unit on Immigration at the turn of the century; read books and watched some Tenament Museum vids, Fivel, Far and Away, Titanic (beginning to middle, lol), etc, and went to Ellis Island, which was pretty cool.

Liberty State Park's abandoned railroad terminal

pretty amazing map

looked for some maternal great-grandparents of mine but couldn't find their names on the Wall of Names.

helping build a structure at the Organic Garden

Hanging with friends, (went to a St Patrick's Day party but didn't take any pics)

Fourchette's anniversary

teaming up with a buddy this year for some organic gardening!

Kids

learning some basic sewing

First Polar Cub of the Season (and a Polar Cub pic from the past)

here's me, beating everyone at Mario Kart (Shy Guy, at the top). just saying. we also watched the 'Tetris' movie this month and played some Tetris. Other media: Mandalorean, Ted Lasso, Top Chef, Daisy Jones, Last of Us, some bible cartoons as I teach the kids some bible stuff.

Dogs

random projects: this month, had two flat tires in quick succession. Also had the heating system of the house worked on; look at this neato steam valve for our radiator.

Car inspected, no line.

The old dishwasher is dead, long live the new dishwasher. Very cool neighbor helped us install it.

Dentist, bloodwork, and annual physical. Dentist is very Covid-cautious, thank goodness. My teeth were so stained by a winter of drinking tea, such a relief to get a great cleaning.
Much busier month, as we emerged from winter..coaching 'Girls on the Run,' Kirk started spring soccer, ramped up theatre rehearsals, piano, Scouts, etc. Another Covid surge, while pandemic protections and declarations and funding ended.

Lastly, I participated in a "March Madness" Medieval Baking online contest. Here's a list of what I made:
Theme: I don't remember what the first round challenge was, but I made "Wort Bread," with brewer's wort; and some wort pudding

Theme: "Cake!": wanted to work with 'historical' meringue, made something which amounted to an angel food cake, basically; "white biskit bread."

Theme: "Persona Meal": (something your SCA historical persona would have made): I am usually Viking these days, so I made "reindeer" (venison) stew with a Finnish Pine Bark Bread

Theme: "Battle Meal": Made Handpies (with battle rune!) and got to use a "pie dolly" that I picked up recently

(now, after so much baking)
