how to make time go slow...
Feb. 20th, 2009 09:14 pm...ala Dunbar. put on "Moonlight" on the SciFi channel, right before Battlestar. I keep looking at the clock in disbelief. golly, it should be on *all* the time. think of all the things that I'd get done.
worked late tonight, busy week...baby shower for one of my co-teachers (male!), got him some cute stuff off CafePress, sent 1 million parent-emails, de-coupled my Facebook-and-Livejournal (dunno, it just felt *too* connected to me. i don't care if LJ turns into some 'Net backwater that no one reads; I'll probably stick around b/c I'm used to the interface and like it. i felt like canning the entire Facebook thing in general; it just feels too weird when a great-aunt friends you, but I did that with my Friendster account in a fit of anger many years ago and I wound up losing touch with some people forever. or maybe forever. i guess it's too early to tell. but Facebook...don't like the look of it, it annoys me, but i check it because it's just too convenient a tool to keep in touch with people.)
Other Events of the Non-Life: did you know they have blueberry Whoppers, this Easter? they taste about how you'd expect. Spent half of this week with a baaad, bad cold...it seems like I've been getting sick since school started in September, one malady after the other...I thought by my third year on the institutional circuit that I'd have some kind of immunity built up...maybe it's the "SuperGerms!" There are still Stinkbugs around this house. They come out of the heater at random moments...I've flushed three already tonight. :shudder: grey little fuckers. one was actually crawling across my laptop. (*this* is why I fluff my bedsheets like a crazy-person! they're everywhere! CONSTANT VIGILANCE!)
So, since life has mostly been about work: been teaching creative writing this week, did "Adventure Stories"...fun! actually my students pretty much loved it and i got great results that *should* be fun to grade; at least, as fun as that gets. (i begged my latter classes not to write about shark attacks. i can't read 80 shark attack stories.) so i've been "advising" in the writing lab for the past few days, and I've been wonderfully mellow ((RARE for me)); I'm thinking its been an incredible effect of the cold medicine I've been taking ('Mucinex'), which now I see why they've moved it *behind* the counter; must be the Pseudoephedrine. I've been as dehydrated as an old corn husk (*hyuck hyuck!* wow hick simile), but woooaaah chatty and conversational with them and very laid back and yet very productive, and my appetite was like totally killed off for two days of cold (you don't feel much like eating when you can't taste food and when the sinus pressure makes your eyeballs feel like they are bulging out of your head ala 'Total Recall' and you have that constant headache from even your glasses sitting on your nose), but now it's back, dangit. Hence, blueberry whoppers that *should* have been destined for someone's Easter basket. I shall have to venture to the land of temptation yet again in order to replenish. also, I had an enormous teapot full of whiskey-and-lemon last night, and watched some Twilight Zones that I haven't seen. (Does anyone have "Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder" on DVD? missing that one, need it for class).
Next week, my SciFi unit begins, and then I teach Comedy creative writing (my fave one of the year, and the one that i am the proudest of)...three fun units. Also fun: the Enrichment cluster that I'm teaching twice a week this marking period is "Puppetry", and it's pretty popular, a lot of kids signed up. Because the school play is "Alice in Wonderland," I decided that we'd do a "Pre-show", and make oversize dancing paper cutout puppets, and they're turning out pretty fab. We have a four-person bubble-blowing caterpillar puppet, a crazy Mad Hatter, an appearing/disappearing Cheshire Cat head, a growing Alice, and an army of cards that will have dowel-pikes to wave around...was working on it last night, and I'm pretty happy with it. I just hope it comes together in time. I also convinced them that we should all wear matching Top Hats, instead of t-shirts, in the name of Awesome, and they bought it. it's going to be cuteness. i'll post pics, after March.i also promised them an ice-cream party, and they got ridiculously excited.
got taxes done. my accountant offered me wine while we were taxing. it was pretty amusing, but I guess you'd have to be there to fully appreciate the scene of the office with all the cat-magnets and other strange paraphenalia; it just seemed surreal, but, again, it might have been that wacky 12 hour cold medicine. heavy shit, i'm telling you.
still waiting for 'Moonlight' to be over. my grandma comes home from her ankle-rehab center tomorrow. and i get to see friends that i haven't seen in nearly three years; very excited!
