i love lists. aint nothin' better than listin.'

so, here's a list of albums that i've accumulated in the past year or so, the "new" music on rotation in the soundtrack of jedimentat's life, to show that i am not calcifying into some hard rock of repetition:

last spring- my ex got me into the Ukrainian-punks "Gogol Bordello"... I LOVE this band, and now have several albums. Also picked up Death from Above 1979, Wolfmother, Scroobius Pip, french singer Camille, Matisyahu, Yoshida Brothers, the Departed soundtrack, and Owain Phyfe's Spanish album.
stuff stolen from the new roommate: Shakira, Rihanna, umm...that's it.

One of the many benefits of a new bf is that you get to raid and pirate their entire music collection...and kingfox has a LOT of music. i spent a good portion of Winter Break going through his four or five massive cd folders and ripping anything that looked interesting. Highlights that I stole that I heretofore did not have, include but are not limited to: Alabama 3, Iron Maiden, Bruce Dickinson, Metallica, the Led Zep box set (I only had this on *cassette*...old school!!), Bob Marley, Type O Negative, NiN, a RATM album that I didn't have, Moby, Leonard Cohen, Fear Factory, Dethklok!, Testament, random goth club music, Rollins Band, Wesley Willis...the list goes on, but those are the ones that I have mostly heard so far. it takes some time to absorb all the new stuff.

New acquisitions, from Amazon and Starbucks ((yes. this is where I buy music now. mostly from the former. I curse my yuppyness, but my beloved Scotti's Record store went out of business, and the other one is too far away)): old Wyclef ('Welcome to Haiti'), new Wyclef, old Murder City Devils, some Christian reggae (Christafari!), THE BRAVERY (2 albums, looooove this band), Best of Buddy Holly, Lance Lopez, Jerry Reed, an album of 'Gunslinger' ballads by Marty Robbins, the Raveonettes, and new R.E.M. (ha! ask me about the lyrics to this one, they might beat Madonna's 'New York' song for rotfl).

whew. and i have to say that various podcasts and online things have really cut into my music-listening...sometimes when i'm down, i realize that i'm just not imbibing enough caffeine or listening to enough music. when i do those things, the quality of life gets a lot better.
