Apr. 9th, 2007 09:40 ama nice family-time Easter, and candy hoardes have materialized that should last me until next October, if I stick to diet plans!
still driving Little Blue, 'cause my car is in the shop and won't be out til tomorrow, supposedly...running me about a month's rent, but I suppose it's better to pay now than to be stranded somewhere later with more serious damage. still...grrr.
cleaning, exercising, grading, running errands...all the exciting things I'm doing on my first day of Spring Break! (sadly, I spent friday mostly on the computer, but the upside is that I reorganized my entire music collection and reloaded my Ipod with 133 straight days of music). Here are some linx though before I detach from the compy for the day:
the British Victorian Cross awarded to the first living recipient since 1965: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/04/08/wiraq308.xml
McCain in Iraq: http://www.commentarymagazine.com/contentions/index.php/boot/322

angryjonny, this one is for you, persuant to our "sexism in Christianity" discussion: recently mocked by Reason Mag, it's the "Concerned Women for America" column, speaking out for the lost "passe prodigal" 30-something women in DC. unbelievable example of our discussion; quote: "And it's equally likely that no one ever told her just how scarred up and USED UP (caps mine) she was going to get playing the Washington game, the one where the guys win and the girls are left with little to show for the "benefits" they thought were paving the way to somewhere, wherever it was they thought they were going." http://www.cwfa.org/articles/12712/BLI/dotcommentary/index.htm
my my my. really precious. of course a woman's primary goal is to be a married baby-maker, not to work to make policy or tinker with man-government in DC. a single woman with a career who is having sex and living where she wants? used up whore! a single woman who is *gasp* 40? hopeless harpy! the sick thing is that this is a *women's* advocacy group. ((and look, before this stirs up all sort of (deserved) hatred of Christian lobbyist groups, let me mention that I am, in fact, a Christian, and that tripe like this does *not* represent what I have found to be the majority of female believers...))
but dang is it ridiculous.
off!
