not much exciting this week, just a lot of teaching and grading and prepping for midterms.

although today i got to go to a Shanghai Hospital...nothing serious, mind you. I had to get certified as healthy in order to apply for a "Foreign Expert's Certificate," the document that you need to teach over here for any long period of time. In the span of 1/2 hour, I had about eight "tests": a two second eye exam ("point to the letter E"), a height/weight measurement (ylch), blood pressure and visual "you look ok" exam by an old doctor dude, an X-ray (!if it was real then i want a lead blanket!), an EKG (although I'm not sure what this really looks like. here, it was a table in a room and some goo on a swab and some metal clamps on ankles and wrists, momentarily very freaky and i'm not sure what it all accomplishes, really, other than looking like we're all using machines that go "bleep"), and an ultrasound (again ! i don't think this was really an ultrasound, it was like a nurse rubbing the gooey wand on one of my ribs for 2 seconds). Oh, and the PRC now has some of my blood. Let the cloning commence!

Looking above, I guess I really like the word 'goo.'
Also, I found out that I suffered unnecessarily through that sinus infection a few weeks ago. Chinese medicine, you say? Fwagh! It turns out that you can walk into any pharmacy and ask for the name of the high-power antibiotic that you want. Prescription? hells, no! just ask for whats you want, and you gets it, and relatively cheap, too. Dangerous, says I. but really easy and convenient sometimes.
